HARRY POTTER
VS
TWILIGHT-
MY VOTE
Twilight vs Harry Potter, one of the biggest book debates ever. I am definitely a Twilight fan though. I have read almost all of Harry Potter, but I stopped in the middle of the fifth, and I have read all of Twilight and seen all the movies a million times. Yes Harry Potter is a classic series that everyone knows, but so is Twilight.
One of the main reasons I love twilight is because it covers so many genres – romance, action, fantasy, vampires, warewolves, (Got to love Jacob Black) comedy, (Alice, Emmet and Eric to name a few) and definitely drama, drama, and more drama. As for Harry Potter, here is my idea on what it was about-
Book 1-7: Something is in risk. Harry plays quidditch. EXPELLIAMUS! Harry, Hermoinie and Ron meet Voldemort. Someone dies. EXPELLIAMUS! Harry and Voldemort cast a few spells. EXPELLIAMUS! Harry survives, and Voldemort disappears to come back to the next book. Repeat.
The only genres of Harry Potter is wizards, magic and fantasy, which in my world means nothing. In Twilight the genres make you want to be Bella, and if you’re like me, you put yourself into her shoes, and wish that you could see go through everything in real life.
As for Twilight, every book has a different storyline that is so interesting. I could go on and on for pages about every book, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who is about to start reading the best book ever. (I mean Twilight by the way.)
An also extra bonus of Twilight is the witty comedy in some of the characters lines. For example, Emmet says to Bella- (SPOILER ALERT) “I hope you’ve had a lot of sleep over these past 18 years, because I don’t think you’ll be getting much more.” That is one of my favourite lines, and there are many more.
I remember waking up early every morning the first time I read Breaking Dawn to read a few chapters. That was in winter. That means something to me, because I was prepared to miss my extra half hour in the morning in bed, slowly getting used to the cold, to read. That is the first time in my life that that happened. I was so attached that when I woke up, the first thing I thought about, looked at, and saw was the Twilight series.
Another great thing about Twilight is that Bella actually goes to a normal school, not some place that doesn’t exist. It’s realistic. The vampires are re-invented. It is now rid of the coffins, and bring on the sparkle skin!
Oh, And the movies. I have to say I like Edward and Bella together, but I am TEAM JACOB! The actors are amazing to watch, and I could have a twilight marathon 365 days a year, and 366 on a leap year.
I hope you enjoyed my opinion on a big book debate that will be lasting for quite a while until the new book phenomenon comes around.
Stay Posted,
Gemma xx

Hi Gemma,
Hope all is going along well at your new school. I agree I’m a Twilight fan too. I’ve only read one Harry Potter book and that was enough. I’ve read all the twilight books twice and seen all the films too. I like the twilight series much more. The first time I read then I stayed up till afteer 12 midnight cause I couldn’t stop reading. I must admit I also feel I’m part of team Jacob he is a great character. Mrs V
PS miss you in my class.
Hi Gemma,
I enjoyed reading your great book discussion. You made some very good points for the Twilight books. I still haven’t read them because I don’t like anything with vampires in it, however I think I should at least try one to see what you are talking about.
I read all the Harry Potter books and loved them all – we even had a Harry Potter fan club run by the kids in the Library at lunchtime. However I think everything has its time and you need to explore lots of other genres (as you did). I’m sure something else just as good will come along one day. Hopefully you will write about that too.
It’s great to see you tackling such an interesting book discussion topic, Gemma. I really enjoyed it.(You must have had a good Librarian – ha,ha)
Hi
I am a used to be Twilight fan I respect you like Twilight but I have to disagree with somethings written in here.
1) Twilight is actually really limited when it comes to genres it’s more of just a Romance fantasy book because of the limited action in the books
2) Harry Potter is actually more extensive in genres it’s Romance because of book 4, 6, and 7, it’s action, it’s Fantasy, and it’s adventure
3) Twilight’s plot preety much had to do with one thing which was Bella wanting to become a vampire and in every book she had to be saved.
4) Harry Potter while the structure of the plot is the same each book is diffrent and new suprises are added in along the way it’s like a giant puzzle.
5) Twilight’s sense of humor is very Dry and not very funny but this really depends on the person reading the book.
6) Bella has been my main problem with the book because she id Male dependant, Weak, Shallow, And Selfish I really think she is an insult to the entire Female race.
7) The sparkling vamps is also another thing that ruined the books for me and ruined vampires for me totally. it’s just to weak and makes vamps seem like fairy’s. but again it’s my opinion
8) Bella going to a normal school really ruined the fantasy genre for me and from that point it was just a Romance story not a fantasy love story because it lacked the fantasy feel to it for me
9) My opinion on the cast is I like The actors who play Alice, Jasper, Emmet, Carlisle, Esme, and Rosalie and the humans. I do not like how dry Kristen’s stewarts performance is and how over dramatic Taylor Lautner’s performance is. I am still holding out judgment for Rob
Anyway I respect you’re opinion but I had to disagree with some things
Hey Gemma,
I really like Twilight as well. And I am totally on team Jacob! You have good taste.I have read all the books and the movies too. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read Breaking Dawn but, Part 2 is going to rock! This is my first time doing the blogging challenge alone. I noticed we have a lot of things in common, I hope to keep in touch.
Your friend,
Tabby S
Hey Gemma! I love the subject of your blog! At my school in the U.S. we all talk about Harry Potter and Twilight. One of the girls in my Language Arts class is obsessed with Harry Potter! Her blog is all about Harry Potter. Some people at our school like Twilight but none of them are obsessed.
Personally I am split down the middle. I like both of them very much but I can not pick a favorite.
Hello Gemma! Sarah (post above) is one of my classmates, and I journeyed to this post on my own. I understand what you mean, and you wrote that quite well, however I must disagree. Twilight is a romance series and is limited to only romance fans. Harry Potter has many genres in it: fantasy, romance, drama, good vs. evil. It also teaches you about friendship, bravery, love, life, death, etc. Twilight doesn’t teach you much about that. It also gives a few bad examples for younger children who read Twilight, such as jumping off a cliff if your boyfriend breaks up with you (I hope no one took that seriously!) However, I’m glad you shared your opinion, but Harry Potter is much better in my opinion.
